2016 EKPHRASIS AND THE MODULATED OBJECT, Housmans Bookshop, London (UK)
In a networked context, objects are always, already extended beyond themselves, moving through multiple translations into word, sound, and moving image. Furthermore, there are, arguably, new species of objects emerging – speculative objects such as a digital rendering which have never been stable in the first place. Such objects, by their very design, are meant to be continually modulated, shifted and stretched. How can one account for the specific materiality of objects in this context? What happens when objects are re-presented, reinterpreted or recreated in writing, film, sound and virtual reality.
